How to ring in 2011 Part 6 - Fall in love with colors

I used to be this person who worshipped the color black. Not that I didn't acknowledge other colors, I just always loved black. I was in that phase where black was cool, and so was any other dark color. I would always paint my nails dark red or brown or black, and I would only buy clothes in earthy and gray colors. Since high school, I went from punk rock to goth rock to beatnik.

And since late last year, I have a new found appreciation for colors. All sorts, and all meshed together. I would buy clothes with different splotches of colors and different patterns on them. And Tumblr is helping fuel this new love. I found all this color crap on Tumblr, and I am loving every one.

The Dainty Squid's Kaylah made rainbow cupcakes with soft pastel colors. I think it was sometime a couple of months ago that I started to get into colors and I asked Denise to make me space cake for my hippie birthday party, and she did.

Only with the rainbows, but without the marijuana.

See? I buy colorful clothes now, and I like contrasts that make other colors stand out.

In fact, the first thing I'm going to do if I land a giant load of money miraculously, is go to Desigual and buy any one of their dresses, and go to Fossil and buy one of their vintage Maya Patch bags.

Call me a hipster, but I also love watching videos of indie bands because they are so cute with colors!

What You Know by Two Door Cinema Club. This was an adorable video with loads of soft pastel color and loads of contrast between the white space and blacks the band was wearing.

This was the video that first got me into Feist. The song is 1234. Look at those colors!

This was an ad I always saw on Aussie TV back when I was in Adelaide. It was a Target ad, used lovely stop-motion animation, and the theme was "Every Colour You Can Dream Of". Song is Everyone and Everything by The Boys and Girls. It's uber cute.

Even the comics I normally read nowadays, instead of the usual black and white Japanese manga I used to read back in the day, are now American superhero comics that, you gotcha, come in glorified color baby. I mean I was always into American superhero comics, but I think my obsession hit an all-new high. I think the colors of their awesome costumes might have something to do with it.

Yes, the trio from Young Justice are well aware that they are a very colorful bunch. Art from here.

Though my favorite 'superhero' is still the goddamned very dark Batman, I'm quite happy with the fact that his current and past wards (for those of you who don't know the comics, the 5 people who have taken the Robin identity) prance around in a wide array of colors, blue for Nightwing, red for the Red Hood and the Red Robin, purple for the Batgirl, and green, red and yellow for the current Robin.

Not to say Japanese manga characters are not colorful, but I guess preferences change and colorful spandex over ripped torsos and biceps seem to appeal to me more now.

And guess what I woke up to this morning. On the table on which I usually have my breakfast of cereal and juice, I found a note Mom left on a jar.

And inside the jar was a variant packet of my favorite candy that Mom brought back from Florida.

I nearly died trying to "go easy".
