Beautiful, what's your hurry?

It's that time of year again. That time of year when I scavenge the Internet for Christmas music. I have a few all-time favorites that remain in the playlist every year, such as Olivia Olson's cover of All I Want For Christmas Is You, an acapella O Holy Night by N'Sync, Andy Williams' It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, and so on and so forth, but every year I search for renditions that I have never heard before, and might possibly make my all-time favorites list.

This year I joined Tumblr, and it really is a sturdy part of my life now. And what I found on Tumblr for Christmas this year are two lovely covers by the lovely Zooey Deschanel.

The first is Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas that Zooey covered with M. Ward, who is the other half of her band She & Him. I have been a big fan of She & Him after hearing their music in promotions of the movie (500) Days of Summer, and even ordered their Volume 2 CD online. I started to follow the She & Him fan-Tumble-log, sheandhim.tumblr.com and they occasionally post up exclusive mp3 downloads of songs performed by the band you won't hear on their albums. And Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas is one of them.

Another song, Baby It's Cold Outside, is one of my favorite Christmas songs (though there's hardly any implication of it having anything to do with Christmas). Why I particularly like this 'Christmas' song so much compared to others is because its tendency to be covered in an old-school bluesy jazzy style, because that's just the nature of the song.

One day, while lurking about on Tumblr, I stumbled upon the video of the Glee renditon, by Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) for the Christmas episode for the second season. And it's so pleasant. Chris's voice is perfect for this song.

THEN this morning, sheandhim.tumblr.com made my day by posting an mp3 download to a cover, not by She & Him, but by Zooey Deschanel featuring jazz/ragtime artist Leon Redbone. And it is equally pleasant! Usually Zooey's low alto voice is evened out by Matt's higher softer-almost-a-whisper voice in She & Him's music, but Leon's even lower baritone voice greatly compliments her voice!

You might remember a very blonde Zooey in one of her older screen appearances as a disgruntled store salesperson in the movie Elf, also singing this song in the shower (unknowingly dueting with Will Ferrel).

I hope I left you readers with an extra song for your Christmas playlist this holiday season...or at least introduced you to a great band.
